It’s green, it’s clean and it adds some classy flavor to the city’s flashy lifestyle. Oh, and it’s another world’s first Dubai can add to its already impressive list of records that includes things like the biggest fireworks display to the highest base jump. Sure, it’s rather a symbol of high-end public transportation than an actual new commuting track for now, yet it proves what UAE’s plans for the future are.
Driving along Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard, the hydrogen-fueled Dubai Trolley is the region’s first-of-its-kind hop-on hop-off transit system that will offer easy and free access for visitors and residents alike. It was unveiled for touristic reasons, of course, as travelers will go sightseeing iconic attractions in Downtown Dubai while riding in it.

According to the developer of the new echo-track, as part of the initial phase, the driver-operated trolley will traverse a distance of 1 km (0.6 mile). Along its path, it offers a relaxed transport experience for people and enhance access to landmarks such as Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building.

Further attractions covered by the 10 km/h (6.21 mph) Dubai Trolley include The Dubai Mall, the world’s most-visited and largest retail and entertainment destination, and Souk Al Bahar, an Arabesque shopping and dining destination.

Operation from 4 pm to midnight on weekdays and from 3pm to 11pm on weekends, the double-decker trolley can carry 50 passengers and is developed to the highest safety standards. The trams are resplendent in bright red with esthetic gold pin-stripes and green trim colors, featuring Arabesque design elements.

When they will be fully operational, Dubai Trolley will eventually span 7 km (4.3 miles) across the entire breadth if Downtown Dubai, as several crossings have been provided along the tramway to safe pedestrian traffic.
