Let’s face it, the Audi R8 was never the star of the supercar sky. Neither the badge, nor the specs are quite up to the task of giving this machine a place on the high-octane podium. Sure, the R8 is a blast, but when compared to machines such as Ferraris, Lamborghinis and GT-Rs, its popularity means it gets left behind. Not the R8 in the clip below, though.
We are talking about the fastest Audi R8 in the world. We gave you a taste of what this Ingolstadt machine can do when we introduced its recent half-mile shenanigan yesterday, but we’re back on the topic as we want to pay more attention to this Audi. The same can be said about the video below, which focused on this R8, not on the half-mile shenanigan that brought the car to our attention.

This wasn’t exactly your average R8 to begin with, since we’re talking about a 2012 R8 GT. Nevertheless, things started going wild once the two-seater ended up in Underground Racing’s garage.

These guys have a fetish for slapping twin turbos to naturally-aspirated supercars and they’ve turned things all the way up to over 2,100 hp for this R8. Keep in mind that we are talking about the hp at the wheels here. Rumor has it that, when in full boost mode, this R8 can deliver as much as 2,300 hp at the wheels.

The V10 unit at the center of the R8 works with a pair of 76-mm turbochargers, while the R-Tronic automated manual has been dropped in favor of a sequential gearbox that’s destined for racing.

The R8 was present at the recent Texas Invitational event, managing to hit 213 mph (343 km/h) in a rolling start, half-mile race. In the process, the Audi managed to defeat a GT-R that delivers around 2,000 hp at the wheels, but with Godzilla using race rubber - the R8 features Toyo R888 tires that reinforce its street legal status.

Sure, the R8 beat the GT-R, but we’re curious to see how the now old platform will stack up against Underground Racing’s latest toy, the twin-turbo Huracan.
