You don't really need an excuse to gather around some of the best and quickest cars available at the moment and take them to a 15,000-feet long airway, but if you did, preparing the "World's Greatest Drag Race" would be the perfect one.
As useless as 0-60 mph acceleration times are in real life (50-80 mph, for instance, is a much more relevant interval because it shows how quickly you can overtake), we somehow continue to evaluate all sporty cars based on this benchmark. And that's because it's a very important factor in quarter-mile drag races.

Ah, yes, drag races - another bit of futile fun we so willingly indulge in. But there's a reason for that: unlike circuit racing, drag racing doesn't require so many things. Usually, you're good with just two cars, a timer, a long enough straight strip of asphalt and not that much skill. Drag racing is much more easily available.

Not with 12 cars at once it isn't, but who's crazy enough to try that? The answer is Motor Trend, and we're eternally grateful for it. This is the seventh "World's Greatest Drag Race," and boy does it merit its name. This year's lineup is as follows: there's the Alfa Romeo Giulia, Aston Martin DB11, Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE, Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport, Ferrari 488 GTB, Lexus LC500, McLaren 570GT Mercedes Benz AMG GTR, Nissan GT-R Nismo, Porsche 718 Cayman S, Porsche 911 Turbo S, and finally, a Tesla Model S P100D.

We could spend a paragraph or two talking about each of these cars, but that would take too much of your time, and we all know you're itching to click that play button. We don't want to spoil it for you either, even though the title might have done it from the start. However, don't be fooled into thinking that just because you know the result, it's not worth watching. Are you kidding? Twelve cars drag racing at once on the same track?
