With more and more 2015 Corvette Z06 drivers squeezing every bit of performance out of their machines on the street, the acceleration battle simply had to move onto the drag strip. Of course, quarter mile runs using stock supercars are only fun for a limited amount of time, so that LT4 under the hood started receiving serious upgrades.
One thing led to another and we are now here to talk about the world's first C7 Z06 to deliver a 9s quarter mile sprint. To be more precise, the 'Vette in question pulled a 9.87s run at 138 mph (222 km/h), running at Bradenton Motorsports Park in Florida.
Like we said, the 6.2-liter V8 of the Z06 was tuned, but using only bolt-on goodies. The work came from Florida-based Fasterproms, which did quite a lot for the engine.
To be more precise, they replaced the standard blower with their ported supercharger, while also installing a custom 2.31 pulley. The breathing is done through a custom air box, while thermal reduction plates deal with the supercharger heat soak. Speaking of keeping the temperature in check, the setup also includes a 1.5-gallon expansion tank for extra supercharger coolant capacity. After also installing ARH-supplied 1.875 exhaust headers, a custom tune completed the job.
Visiting the dyno after all the technical care it received, this Z06 returned a set of sweet results: 714 hp and 720 lb-ft (976 Nm) of torque, everything at the wheels.
As for the rubber, this Corvette used Hoosier drag radials coming is a size of 315/30/18 for the rear axle.
Standard C7 Corvettes have been taken north of 1,250 horses, which means we still have some waiting to do until the full potential of the Z06 is exploited by aftermarket developers.
Meanwhile, the two clips below offer both the track and the in-car view of the 9s run, with the storm-like gear shifting coming as a bonus.
