Woman’s Rampage at Memphis Airport Over $20 Baggage Fee Causes Damages of $2,500

It’s normal for any passenger to become angry when they hear an airline company is adding another $20 baggage fee they hadn’t mentioned before, right before boarding. However, outbursts like the one below are a gross overreaction.

Tamiko Warner was at the Memphis International Airport this week, when she was informed about the extra baggage fee. Unlike most passengers who maybe complain but pay it either way, she went completely bananas.

A fellow passenger filmed the entire outburst, which apparently went on for 5 full minutes and saw Warner kicking over security poles, kicking desks and even using a fire extinguisher. Those extra $20 that she had to pay became $2,500 worth of damage to airport equipment, WREG reports.

I don't care about going to jail. Whatever. This is worth it,” Warner is heard saying at one point, as she’s clapping happily. She’s also seen flipping the bird and knocking over furniture, indifferent to what other people are telling her about how she needs to calm down.

The police tell WREG that, in her outburst, she caused damage to computers, phones and carpets. She was eventually subdued by airport security and led outside, where she was placed into police custody. She is now on a $5,000 bond, so she’s probably reconsidering that whole “it was totally worth it” thing she was talking about.

The report doesn’t say whether Warner has legal representation.

Other passengers at the airport expressed outrage at this kind of outburst, noting that people should check themselves when in public so as to not act this way. That’s stating the obvious, but in this particular case, it does seem necessary. Not only did Warner cause damage to airport property, but she also ruined the traveling experience for other passengers. After all, she had the option not to travel at all if she didn’t want to pay the fee, which still ended to be the case after her arrest.
