Woman Wins Lottery, Gets Run Over, Dies

There's an old saying in some countries which states a pile of bad luck will fall upon those who win a lottery. Unfortunately for 47-year old Deborah McDonald, the saying turned into a cruel reality this week in Ohio.

After years of financial struggles, Deborah and her husband Robert managed to get a seat in the Ohio Lottery's Cash Explosion Double Play television show and the chance to escape poverty. Deborah managed to win $8,000 in the lottery and things seemed brighter for the family.

Robert and two best friends accompanied Deborah to Columbus to cash the check, following the taping of the show earlier this month.

"We went and cashed her check, we were taking pictures," Sherry Blissit, one of her friends was quoted as saying by fox8.com. "She bought her and I a friendship ring."

The celebration continued throughout the day with shopping sprees, a dinner at the red Lobster and in the end a drink and dance at a local tavern. This is the nightmare began and the dream come true ended, as she got hit by a car.

"She went out the door and before I'd even come out, she had already got hit," Blissit said.

"I dove head first into the ditch, I seen her laying there, I tried to help her, but she was already dead," her husband recalled.

Police found the car was heading westbound, as did Deborah on the same lane as the car. Due to the impact, she was thrown into a traffic stop and died on the scene. The driver will not be charged with any crime.

The Cash Explosion Double Play will air today, Saturday 30, with a special message from the Ohio Lottery Commission.
