Every parent’s nightmare became reality for a couple walking through the atrium at the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport last weekend, when a woman tried to kidnap their kids.
Surveillance cameras captured the strange incident and the rapid response of one Atlanta police traffic control officer, who rushed to help the couple and stop the woman. Atlanta police spokeswoman Tashena Brown tells WSB-TV 2 Atlanta that the officer deserves praise for her bravery.

Police arrested Esther Daniels, a 26-year-old woman from Kansas, and charged her with attempted kidnapping and obstruction. She is currently being held for mental evaluation and is due back in court at the beginning of next month.

Her actions and her behavior afterwards speak volumes of her state of mind, Brown believes. As shown in the video, she approached the mother who was walking with her children and tried to take the kid in the stroller. When the mom fought her off, she turned her attention to another child, grabbing him and trying to run away.

Luckily, the father was nearby and, seeing his wife and his children in danger, rushed and engaged the woman. A tug of war ensued between him and Daniels, as she tried to run away with the second child. When the officer intervened, Daniels let go of the child and ran away.

According to the authorities, it took 3 other officers and 2 pairs of handcuffs to subdue her. They even strapped her in a wheelchair, but she continued to fight them off, yelling at them.

“Her behavior was very erratic, but we can’t really speak on what her mental state was, but we can agree that what she did was very erratic and odd, to say the least,
” Brown says, while praising the officer who responded to the mother’s cries for help.

As you can see in the video, other passengers didn’t do anything to intervene, though they did stop to watch.
