Sometimes, you just have to do things yourself, to make sure that they get done. One woman from Kansas City, Missouri, had her car stolen and was able to get it back by following the bread crumbs left behind by the thieves.
Her mission was a success, but police would urge any car owner in a similar situation not to do the same. With this caveat, they commend Danielle Reno for not actually putting herself in danger by tracking down the thief of her Toyota 4Runner.

Reno was out with her daughter when the 4Runner was stolen. She tells KCTV5 that she was only out a few minutes when her car was gone, together with her phone, her wallet and everything inside, including several credit cards.

She filed a police report, as any other citizen would have done. At the same time, she also started doing a little digging on her own, realizing that she could ask for all activity on her credit cards as well as use a tracking app on her phone, to find its location.

Reno eventually ended up at a gas station, where she found out from an attendant that whoever used her credit card told him they were heading to Applebee’s for dinner. She did the same and was shocked to find the thieves wining and dining on her dime.

“Oh my gosh, before I call the cops, I wanted to show you all what we just found, by doing our own stalking,” Reno says in the video she shot on location, as she looked on at the car thief, as cited by the same media outlet. “At Applebee’s, my heart’s racing. She has my wallet in her hand and my keys in her hand.”

Then, she got an idea and went and retrieved her car, literally stealing it back from the thief who had stolen it from her. The bad news is that the car’s interior was trashed so badly Reno will no longer drive it. She considers the 4Runner a complete loss because she the damage to the interior, but she’s happy she was able to see justice being served, partially by her own hand.

The cops, though, would like this not to become an example for other citizens.
