One domestic dispute took a turn for the strange – and very dangerous – in West Philadelphia, Pennsylvania earlier this week. A baseball bat, bricks and a toddler, still strapped in a carseat, were involved.
Witnesses tell ABC 7 Eyewitness News that the incident started when a woman, still to be identified by police, started hitting the windows of a parked Acura with a baseball bat. She also threw bricks at the same vehicle, breaking down the windows and causing serious dents on the body of the car.
Initial reports claimed that this is when the man took a toddler still strapped in the carseat (presumably the woman’s child) and tossed him in a grassy area for protection. However, it’s been since established that the man “angrily” threw the 1-year-old, so it was his way of retaliating against the woman’s attack on the car.
“The lady was beating up the car with a bat,” James Street, who saw the incident play out, says. “And the gentleman got out the car and took the baby seat, with the baby in it, and tossed it halfway across the field like a football.”
That’s when people intervened, restrained the man and called the police. According to the report, the child was rushed to the hospital for abrasions on the face and is believed to be ok. The man too has been admitted to a hospital, but the nature of his injuries remains unknown.
The report doesn’t say anything about the woman, but the video at the bottom of the page shows that the Acura took quite a beating.
Philadelphia police have confirmed the incident for the media outlet, but they’re yet to mention anything about pressing charges against the two. Since their names haven’t been released to the press, it’s likely the investigation is still ongoing and they haven’t been charged yet.
