Woman Killed After Airborne Tire Crushed Her Car

The chances to get killed in a stupid accident while driving you car quietly and peacefully are not as low as one might think.

A recent article on KPHO shows that innocent drivers might die...by mistake of others. A 21-year-old-woman was cruising in her Honda Civic at about 1 p.m. on Wednesday along the Capital Beltway between Kenilworth Avenue and Route 1 in Prince George’s County when a truck tire hit her car and brought her death.

As incredible as it may seem, the story is not depicted from a sort of morbid comedy. With the help of the state police, a scenario of the accident was built in order to explain what might have happened.

It seems the tire came from a delivery truck being towed by Roger Smith, 43, of Dale City. The tragedy started when the tire stuck the center guardrail, bounced across the grassy median and over a second guardrail. Afterwards, it was hit by a reightliner tractor-trailer, which launched the tire into the air and back across the median, where it landed directly on top of the woman’s Honda Civic. The accident left the woman dead on the spot. Later, the victim was identified as Channing Quinichett, of Halethorpe, Md. In result of the crash, two lanes of the interstate were closed for a few hours.

More importantly, police are still investigating the case and possible charges will be filed only after the findings are presented to the Prince George’s County State’s Attorney’s Office.

The truck driver, Roger Smith, works for Waggy’s Towing of Dumfries, Va.  The day of the unfortunate accident he was taking the flat-bed truck from Arlington, Va., to Westminster, Md., to have its hydraulic lifting boom repaired. Unfortunately, he was stopped on the way to destination.
