UPDATED: Woman Jumps Out of Her Moving Hyundai in California, Car Causes a Crash

Ever felt the need to jump on the brakes at speed, wait for your car to slow down and then jump of it, leaving the vehicle to roll away? No, we didn't experience such a desire either, but you should know the question isn't completely out of place.

After all, one might ask himself that after watching the clip below, which shows a female driver doing just that.

It all happened on September 1st in California, with a dash cam capturing the unexplainable driving behavior.

The "camera car", which was following the vehicle in question on the Harbor Blvd in La Habra, allows us to see the entire episode.

We are talking about a woman in a Hyundai Sonata, who drives around in a manner usually associated with those on drugs. It all starts becoming extremely dangerous when she goes for an emergency braking maneuver that almost causes the car behind her to crash into the Hyundai.

Just as the vehicle filming the ridiculous driving comes to a halt inches away from the Sonata's rear bumper, the Hyundai driver jumps out of her car in a well-coordinated move - well, we have to give her that.

She leaves the Sonata to roll away and starts walking casually as if nothing had happened.

The Hyundai was going through a downhill bend, so it started gaining the wrong kind of momentum. The car eventually crosses the median, veering into oncoming traffic.

Unfortunately, the road usage percentage was high at the time, so avoiding the upcoming Hyundai took quite some efforts. And while a few drivers managed to steer out of its path, the Hyundai eventually hit a Honda CR-V that was pulling a trailer.

Noticing the way in which the car seems to behave before the driver jumps out, one might be tempted to think we are dealing with a case of vehicle self-acceleration here.

This doesn't seem likely, but even so, the driver's behavior is anything but justified, since there are so many other paths she could have chosen, while her post-jump behavior doesn't appear to show any trace of concern for other people's safety.

Update: a report from the California Highway Patrol Santa Fe Springs office shows that a third vehicle was involved in the crash caused by the runaway Hyundai, but no major injuries are mentioned.

The woman who caused the mayhem was identified as 22-year-old Jasmine Lacey of San Bernardino. After she had been taken to the hospital before the police officers arrived, the woman was eventually arrested for DUI. However, Lacey was subsequently released from custody due to the evidence being deemed insufficient to support a criminal record.
