Talk about the strangest carjacking case in recent weeks. An elderly woman from Hamilton, New Jersey, fell asleep in her parked car and woke to find it missing.
If you ever thought crashing into your car would somehow safeguard it from carjackers, this clearly proves you wrong. On the bright side, police have already recovered the car and the woman received only minor injuries, but our guess is she won’t be sleeping in her vehicle again. Not even when it’s parked right outside her door.
Police responded to a call in the early hours of morning and found at the scene an 80-year-old woman with a strange story to tell, NJ.com reports. She told them she fell asleep in the car at about 9 p.m. the night before and woke up on her own at 4 a.m. She was on the ground and had a bruise and abrasion on her face, so the car thief removed her before taking her ride.
She didn’t remember a single thing about the incident, so she couldn’t offer the officers any clues that might help them catch the bad guy or gal quicker. An explanation for why she chose to nap in the car wasn’t immediately available, but she must have assumed it was safe for her to do since she was in her driveway.
The report doesn’t mention the make of the car, but for whatever reason, the vehicle wasn’t of too much interest for whoever took it. “Police said they recovered the empty vehicle later Thursday in Trenton,” the publication says.
As of the time of writing, police still didn’t have someone in custody for the crime. The good news is that the victim will be ok. Whoever did this will probably be facing more charges than just for car theft, including assault or assault on an elderly person.
