A woman from Huber Heights, Ohio called 911 last week to report that she’d gotten “trapped” inside a touchless car wash and needed help from the firefighters to get out. Turns out, she was just clueless.
The woman’s story went viral after she was “rescued” from inside the car wash by local firefighters. The 911 call she placed, which was made public later, had her telling the operator that she didn’t know what to do because she was freaking out. She seemed genuinely convinced that there was no way for her to get out of the car wash, save by tearing through the door with her car.
Now, the owner of the car wash is speaking out. Sabri Salheih is too delicate to flat-out call the woman clueless, but that’s the conclusion you can reach when you hear his side of the story, which he gives to WHIO TV.
Surveillance video shows the woman drive towards the door once the wash was over, and then back in. She gave no reason for why she reversed, but once she did, she also placed the call to 911 to report she was stuck.
As it turns out, all she had to do to get the door to open was to move towards it again. She could have also gotten out of the car to simply lift the door: after all, it was just a thicker sheet of plastic, it wasn’t like she was barricaded behind a steel door. She also had the option of getting out of the car to press the emergency button.
She told the cops she knew she had this third option, but she chose not to use it for fear the “equipment started back up and injured her.” Contacted by WHIO TV regarding her decision to back into the car wash again, she said she wanted to use whatever was left of her drying time.
“I’ve been in car wash business for a while, I never have seen these things,” Salheih says. That’s because he never met the right woman, clearly.
