Woman Almost Killed in Car Wash Accident

Normally, you would be tempted to think that working for a car wash is a peaceful and safe job but reality proves the contrary.

A Massachusetts car wash worker almost died after her scarf got caught in machinery at her job last weekend, kpho.com has found out. Stephanie Carpluk, 19, of Chicopee, Mass. is battered and bruised but happy to be alive after probably the most horrifying experience she has been through in her entire life.

The accident happened on Sunday when her scarf  got caught on a spinning scrubber brush at the Golden Nozzle Car Wash and began strangling her. Consequently, she lost consciousness. If it wasn't for customer John O'Leary who jumped out of his vehicle and used his pocketknife to free her, the woman would have probably been killed. He used mouth-to-mouth resuscitation to revive the teenager while another customer called 911.

"I didn't know what to think. I was just scared. I didn't know what the outcome was going to be," Carpluk said. "I started hearing little things like, 'You're breathing. You're going to be alright. You're back, just stay with me, stay with me.'"

At the moment, Carpluk was the only employee at the Northampton Street car wash. She was immediately taken to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, Mass. On Tuesday, she was released from hospital with black eyes and welts on her neck but doctors expect she will be all right.

The car wash's boss, Steven Roberts confessed he was extremely grateful to the "exceptionally courageous" O'Leary.

So far it is not known whether Stephanie Carpluk is going to return to the job after the nightmarish experience she's been through there. Maybe she will just consider assuming less dangerous responsibilities in the future.
