Winter Tires to Become Compulsory in Romania

As the cold season is already here, some drivers are busy fitting their vehicles with winter tires, in order to be able to drive safety and avoid unpleasant situations, such as those when the car is stuck and requires assistance to be able to move.

However, as the real-life situations have shown us, not all drivers have this kind of concerns. Some just can’t be bothered, others may not afford acquiring a new set of tires - regardless of the motive, some vehicles just have to face the snow and ice “naked”.

This is why the Romanian authorities have decided to do more than just ask the Police to advise drivers to fit their vehicles with winter rubber. Now, the country’s Ministry of Transport has created a new law that makes the use of winter tires compulsory.

The new project states that all cars and trailers must use special cold season tires between November 1 and March 31. The project is currently in the development phase, pending official approval.

However, winter tires are not only designed for snow and ice. This type of tires also uses a different composition that allows them to perform better in low temperatures. This means that even though the exterior temperature has not reached 0 degrees Celsius and the road ahead of you is as dry as it can be, you should also use winter tires.

We’re expecting automotive producers to step in and offer special winter tire programs in order to take advantage of this new project.
