Remember the cars in The Demolition Man, which were able to drive themselves and had that advanced safety feature that instantly filled the interior with foam in case of accident? Well, I was about 5 years old when I first saw the movie and it blew my mind.
The vehicle was actually a real General Motors concept car known as the Ultralite, due to its lightweight construction and 2-stroke engine that could push the car to a maximum speed of 135 mph (217 km/h) and still achieve 100 mpg (2.4 l/100 km).

Fact is that many major futuristic movies featured a real concept vehicle and even Lexus had one in Steven Spielberg’s Minority Report from 2002. The producer himself asked Lexus to create a vehicle that would fit the needs of year 2054. The crazy-looking vehicle, known as the Lexus 2054, was allegedly running on fuel cells and was having advanced safety features, like a crashproof structure and biometric security systems.

UK magazine ShortList recently made a top futuristic movie vehicles asking readers which one would they prefer to drive in the future. So, click here and go see the full list.
