XDL (Extreme Drift league) - the final frontier for 2013? With more and more riders involved in the freestyle motorcycle stunt business, it looks like this is finally going to be acknowledged as a motorsport and will have its events in the official FIM calendars.
What started as a car drifting race became an increasingly popular series, well organized and drawing more people, both riders and spectators, with every passing season. And with the almost endless possibilities of racing all year-long, outdoors, indoors and in many strange places (see the video above), it seems like FIM is making the right decision.
German Randy Grube, owner and founder of XDL, has been talking a lot with FIM officials and it looks like there is more consensus than most of us expected. With a huge fan base in Europe and Eastern countries and a set of clear and coherent rules already in place, the XDL can really be a breath of fresh air into the motorcycling world. Even more, adding North America in the game will make a great world series
Grube says that 2013 will have a FIM series, and XDL will have an Indian series, FIM-sanctioned or not. Why India? Because of Pulsar pushing hard on stunt riding, knowing there is immense potential in the Asian market for such a sport.
