Why You Should Never Run a Red Light

The purpose of traffic lights is to make intersections safe for both cars and pedestrians, as well as control the flow of traffic so that jams are avoided. The latter becomes redundant in really congestion-ridden cities, but the safety concern remains.
If you run a red light, you risk being hit full-on by some speeding maniac who wanted to make sure the light was green so he or she stepped on it. Most people accelerate as they are approaching an intersection where the light is already green, so that they don’t have to wait - it is a natural thing drivers do.

It is therefor all the more dangerous because of that. This Audi A6 driver from Russia clearly proves the point, as the car gets knocked pretty badly by a Hyundai Tucson - a big, tall and rather heavy crossover/SUV.
