Well, Dave's idea of securing the kickstand of a bike against toppling over due to burying in the gravel, sand or moist ground is definitely not new. Riders have been using all sorts of things they can find around the bike to place under the stand and solve this problem.
From small branches to folded PET water bottles, and from flat rocks to simply parking the bike few feet away on harder ground, many more solutions are available. Now, Dave's idea is definitely not bad, but it is flawed from several points of view.
First of all it's the crowdfunding goal of $12,500 (€9.245), which is extremely high for the purpose, period. Then it's the price of the KickCard, which is double than other similar products sell for, including carbon fiber ones.
Now, if you're a real adventurer and constantly need to park in difficult places, you've most likely already bought pro-grade accessories such as the Camel Toe or similar products. And you don't carry your wallet in an outer pocket. And you don't have time to wash it clean after parking in mud, in order to prevent dirt from filling your wallet.
For a sportbike rider wearing leathers only and not carrying anything else, this might be a nice solution, even though a similar DIY unit can be made in one's garage at the price of some beers with friends. Not anodized, but still feasible...
