In the battle of internal combustion engines, diesel units seem to gain some ground lately. Just yesterday we told you that once the 335d F30 3 Series model will be launched, it will become the fastest non-M 3er ever made.
That's good news for us and for our budgets. The combination of fuel efficiency, high levels of torque and sporty feel makes us look twice before picking a petrol unit over a diesel when buying a car.

The guys from Motorvision had the opportunity to test drive BMW's X5 in the M50d xDrive version. This beast had a 3-liter tri-turbo diesel engine that produces no less than 381 HP and 740 Nm (545 lb-ft) of torque.

That torque is enough to make your spine stick to the back seat of your car and accelerate to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 5.4 seconds. How fast is 5.4 seconds? Well, let's put it this way: the legendary Nissan Skyline R32 GTR used to do it in 5.8 seconds.
