Who Needs Airbags When You Have a Sunroof?

Why have none of the safety-concious automakers, like Volvo, Renault or (the now defunct) Saab, ever thought outside the box? They spent billions among themselves developing airbags, seatbelt pre-tensioners, crumple zones and anti-whiplash headrests.
However, have they ever though of ejecting the passenger out of the car, to safety in the event of a crash? It was cool enough for James Bond, so why shouldn’t the average Joe benefit from it. Take the video below as an example, as it proves the point, and so does this one. It also proves that the Peugeot 605 is a very safe car!

Apparently, a British man and his girlfriend were driving along, having a loud argument, when the girl (who was at the wheel) hit a wall, and the car rolled over, ejecting the man through the sunroof. So, did he have broken bones, internal bleeding or permanent brain damage? No.

Maybe it’s time for automakers to look beyond the airbag, as it has been around for about half-a-century, basically unchanged in concept. Airbags need to be done away with, in favor of something safer alternatives, as they have reportedly killed 175 people in the US from 1990 to 2000.
