With all the conundrum surrounding the global health crisis-related delay in planned deliveries for the 2021 Ford Bronco, it's not surprising some fans don’t want to wait any longer. Luckily, our Celebration Month feature includes anything and everything Bronco, so here’s a fifth-generation alternative that’s readily available right now.
By the way, with Ford having to push deliveries for the reinvented 2021 Bronco to an as-yet-unknown date next summer, this 1996 Bronco XL 4x4 listed for sale at $22,900 could very well serve as an early appetizer. After all, the Blue Oval is already preparing reservation holders for a possible switch to the 2022MY, as the huge list is potentially spilling production into 2022 as well.

As such, our suggestion is to consider this fifth-generation SUV as a way to fulfill the Bronco crave. Plus, since this particular example is in great shape for its mileage (a little over 167k miles or 268k kilometers), you could just sell it when the time comes to make room for the new-generation model on your driveway.

With less than 7k (11.2k km) yearly miles done on average over the course of 24 years, this late model year of the fifth generation hasn’t traveled too much during its lifetime – though, granted, it’s not the newest Bronco from the period we have recently seen.

Still, it does come with a major advantage over the new Bronco – under the hood sits a five-liter V8 engine that, back in the day, churned out around 200 horsepower. Those ponies were sent to the wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission, while the company’s on-demand 4WD system took care of getting the power to the ground irrespective of the terrain details.

Overall, this 1996 Bronco looks as clean as gets, with the only visible additions being the color-coordinated side steps (making it a tad easier to get in and out of the spartan-blue interior) and the period-correct looking aftermarket alloys wrapped in Toyo all-terrain tires.
