Whipple Supercharges the 2015 Ford Mustang to 700 HP

Although the 2015 Mustang won’t hit dealerships until late 2014, aftermarket parts providers such as Whipple are already working on updates for the redesigned pony.

Unlike Ford Racing, who has only released a teaser for its upcoming supercharger, Whipple has unveiled plenty of details on its new blower, which promises to take the 5.0-liter V8 engine’s output up to 700 horsepower.

The 2.9-liter W175ax twin-screw supercharger will feature a 15 percent larger bar-plate intercooler, a larger aluminum intercooler reservoir, an integrated Crusher 170mm oval inlet and either a standard 6-rib or an optional 10-rib belt system.

Whipple says the supercharger will come with OEM quick connect fittings for easy installation. Complete kits, turner kits and hot rod kits will be available in wrinkle black, polish or any custom colors. Whipple is also offering an optional 5-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty.

Ford has yet to reveal precise hp and torque numbers, but said the V8 Mustang will have at least 420 hp and 390 lb-ft at its disposal. This means that the Whipple supercharger will add at least 280 horses to the mill.

No word on pricing and availability for now, but there’s plenty of time for that, as the 2015 Mustang isn’t expected to become available in showrooms before the fourth quarter of the year.
