When a 2018 Toyota Supra Prototype Got Outpaced by a 2018 Kia GT on Nurburgring

We have serious reasons to believe that, once BMW and Toyota complete the work on their jointly-developer sportscar, we'll end up with two sweet machines. However, the project is currently in the face-only-a-mother-could-love phase, at least when it comes to the 2018 Supra.

Let's take the Supra testing in the piece of footage at the bottom of the page, for instance. The clip shows the Supra hitting the Nurburgring, so you could expect flying laps and tormented tires.

We'll probably have to wait for that, as the prototype is currently being driven around the track as boulevard pace. Heck, the same video also shows the 2018 Kia GT (Stinger) we spied earlier this week - ironically, the supposedly twin-turbo V6-powered Kia prototype easily outpaced the sportscar test mule.

And things don't get any better if we remember the previous occasion on which why spied the future Toyota. Spotted while exiting the BMW M center at the Green Hell, the prototype's soundtrack was anything but inspiring (here's the story, in case you missed it).

Then again, we won't let this blow out of proportions. Heck, Toyota hasn't even confirmed the vehicle will mark the revival of its iconic sportscar, so it's way too early to jump to conclusions.

Speaking of the which, we'll take the time to remind you the rumor mill talks about a possible hybrid setup, one that would confirm the disappointing soundtrack mentioned above. Regardless, the sportscar could pack 400 hp in this configuration, but you should also expect lesser outputs from combustion-only powertrains.

Hopefully, if Toyota decides to satisfy its gas-electric fantasies, the hybrid powertrain won't take that much of a toll on the performance. After all, we now know what happens when the hybrid 2017 Acura NSX is pitted against the decade-old (OK, with the expected evolution) 2017 Nissan GT-R in a drag race. Unfortunately, things didn't end up well for the all-new NSX.
