Despite being one of Samsung’s latest and greatest mobile phones, the Galaxy S20 is unable to run Android Auto for some reason, with buyers complaining that the app doesn’t launch when the phone is connected to their cars.
The first report showed up shortly after Samsung started shipping the Galaxy S20 in early March, and since then, several other customers confirmed that using this Android phone with Android Auto isn’t possible.

Google, on the other hand, confirmed a few days ago that while it’s trying to find the cause of the problem, it’s been unable to reproduce the issue, so it’s now asking for help in an attempt to come up with a fix.

Thanks for all the responses. Unfortunately, we were not able to reproduce the issue. Your bug reports will be helpful for further investigation, we'll send you an email with the instructions on how to capture a bug report. Please reply directly to the email,” a member of the Android Auto team explains.

So basically, the first thing you should do if Android Auto doesn’t work with the Galaxy S20 is get in touch with Google and provide the company with the necessary information about the issue. The Android Auto team selects the users to offer bug reports from this discussion thread, so this is the place to keep an eye for if you want to work together with Google on developing a fix.

Then, the rest of the workarounds are more or less a matter of luck. For example, you could very well try to use a different cable, but given Samsung phones typically come with high-quality cables that experience no issues with Android Auto, sticking with the one that shipped with the S20 is the best way to go.

Then, updating Android Auto and Google services to the latest versions could also help, although some say that actually downgrading Android Auto might increase the changes of getting the app up and running.

Needless to say, clearing the cache and the data in Android Auto and the rest of associated services increase the likelihood of fixing the problem, but for the time being, most of these make no difference for the majority of users.

So right now, the best thing to do if Android Auto doesn’t work with the Galaxy S20 is try all these workarounds and, more importantly, send a bug report to Google to help them with the bug investigation.
