What's Under the Hood of a Lexus RC F Super GT Race Car

Most car fans would rather tune their rides and race than watch motorsport. By contrast, fans of eSports (us included) are happy watching pros do the headshots and base runs.

Why? It may be because we know race cars have almost nothing in common with the things we drive. It's really obvious when you look at F1, but it's also true for the WRC, rallycross, and many other venues. The only noticeable exceptions are one-make racing series like the Clio RS Trophy.

Don't believe us? Check out this Lexus RC F race car. In Japan, they have a thing called the Super GT500 class, where all the competitors are forced to stay under 500 horsepower. It's a cool race where you get to see a GT-R duking it out with something that looks like the old NSX.

Lexus also has a stunning looking RC F, which is forever etched into our brains thanks to its beautiful pearl paint.Part of the fun of motorsport is getting up close to the race car and sniffing the rubber. That's what somebody did at the Motor Sport Japan 2016 Festival in Odaiba, Tokyo, and got us a good look at the RC F race car with its hood open.

Well, in reality, the front end is one big shell that comes off, revealing a tubular chassis and a racing engine that looks like a piece of alien technology. There are huge vents everywhere, exhaust that comes out through the door and slick Potenza tires. The entire thing is one big piece of carbon and tubular steel.

We also found a video of the same race car from 2015 while it's still in one piece. As you can see, it's quite a beautiful sight. But calling this a Lexus RC F is like calling Wonder Woman a regular girl.
