What If Mario Drove the Ferrari SF90 in Mario Kart?

If you live on Planet Earth, chances are you know what Mario Kart is. The go-kart racing video game first came out in 1992 from Nintendo, and has grown since into something of a phenomenon, spawning a long list of spinoffs and variants playable on consoles or mobile devices.
The last in the series is called Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit and hit the market earlier this year. It is also one of the most interactive of the bunch, as it involves augmented reality and actual, physical Mario or Luigi sets that include remote-controlled toys.

Each kart is equipped with cameras used to stream real-time racing footage on the Switch gaming console, and each player can create their own tracks and compete against other local players.

Now, in the game (both the virtual ones, and Home Circuit) these vehicles are of course made up. They come in various shapes, sizes and colors, unique to each character. Depending on what kind of karts they are, each comes with its own performance figures for speed, acceleration, and handling.

But what if these were somewhat based on real-world cars? What would each of the characters be best suited for? These are the questions British leasing broker Select Car Leasing asked some renderers. And they answered by providing such solutions for all the major characters, starting with Mario himself and ending with Toad. We’ll feature them all, over the coming days, and we’ll start with the car the game’s top man would be driving.

Mario, being Italian and all (is he?!), needs an Italian car, and the Ferrari SF90 was a natural choice. The Prancing Horse’s plug-in hybrid got miniaturized, digitalized, and turned into this thing here.

Sporting a Mario Star instead of the carmaker’s badge, but also a more aggressive bodykit, new wheels and an exhaust, it looks as it has always belonged in the world of zeroes and ones.
