What Happens when a BMW F80 M3 Takes on a Tuned F10 M5?

The new kid on BMW’s Motorsport block is definitely the F80 M3. Taking the world aback with its performance, it was quickly deemed as a car that’s really hard to beat even in straight up racing.

On the other hand, the F10 M5 was quickly dismissed as a heavy, close-to unusable car on the track that has big issues with the way it handles. One thing that couldn’t be said about the bigger sedan is that it’s not fast enough in a straight line.

Even though it’s close to 2 tons in weight, the Bimmer still has a mighty 4.4-liter V8 biturbo under the bonnet making 560 HP and 680 Nm (501 lb-ft) of torque. Those numbers are hard to grasp but we’re here to tell you that they turn the luxurious sedan into a land-rocket.

A lot of people wondered what would happen if the two were to be unleashed upon each other. What would the outcome be. Well, we’re just as curious but what we have below is not the answer to our questions, unfortunately.

That’s because the M5 is not stock. According to the video description, it has a Burger Motorsports stage 1 engine map, AFE intake and rear muffler delete. There’s no power output stipulated but we’re guessing it’s pushing around 620 HP to the wheels along with some 600 lb-ft (800 Nm) of torque.

The M5 is roughly 300 kilos (661 lbs) lighter on its feet but it has only 431 HP and 550 Nm (406 lb-ft) to rely on from the 3-liter biturbo inline 6-cylinder engine under the bonnet. Could that staggering difference in power be compensated for by the drop in weight?

Well, if this was a standing start race, maybe the M3 could’ve had a small chance of keeping up but in this case, the win obviously goes to the M5. A race between stock models would be more than interesting though.
