What Do You Call a Mazda MX-5 Miata With a Trunk Full of Meat, Meat-Yata?

They say "one man's meat is another man's poison." But a recent post on Reddit proved "one man's Miata is another man's Meat-Yata?" A Redditor posted an interesting picture of a Miata with a trunk full of meat. The caption read, "I was told Miatas handle better with lots of meat, but it feels a little worse...should I put it in the passenger seat instead?"

It's hard to understand why someone would load a Mazda MX-5's trunk with that amount of meat. Either way, the post proves the Miata can be much more than a roadster, but a helpful hauler, when you desperately need it.

We don't know where the Redditor got that information, but we feel the picture was posted for some shock value. Adding some weight to the back of a rear-wheel-drive car (over the rear axle) will indeed help improve traction if you are driving through snow. However, this is solid advice for truck owners, not a Mazda MX-5.

According to Mazda, the MX-5 has a nearly perfect 50/50 weight distribution front and back. Adding extra weight to the back could lead to a pendulum effect. Also, the weight increases the friction force on the rear wheels but offsets it in the load in the trunk.

This hack works better in muscle rear-wheel-drive cars where all the weight is at the front (super light back end). If you want to improve traction on an MX-5 during winter, all you need is a good set of winter tires.

The author of the Reddit post didn't seem to be driving in winter, and judging by the comment section, people were more concerned with the car's condition after the task since the meat wasn't properly concealed.

We hope the goods got delivered safely. It's evident from the post that adding weight doesn't help. That said, this MX-5 will need a proper wash later. Otherwise, the smell will do a lot of damage to its resale value.
