What Do We Really Know About the Cadillac ELR?

The recently unveiled Chevy Volt-based Cadillac ELR sporty range-extender is still shrouded in mystery, despite the fact that we can see photos of it, both inside and out all over the internet. We don`t really know how powerful it is, though it will most likely have around 135 kW - it roughly equates to around 180 hp.
Performance figures have not been released, but a 0-62 mph or 0-100 km/h time of just under 8 seconds is plausible, and the top speed will probably limited way before the car actually runs out of go (battery limitations).

Speaking of batteries, GM has apparently announced a 10% increase in battery capacity, for the Volt`s 16 kWh pack.

We don`t know how many they will be making, though the words 'limited production' have been thrown around by GM officials. Even the at the 2013 North American International Auto Show, where they were surrounded by some 5,000 journalists eager to get a good scoop, they still basically said nothing.

When it comes to the ELR's pricing, we only have speculation to go on, but you should expect it to go for around $60,000. Officials did, however, say that it would be priced in-between the Fisker Karma and the Chevy Volt on which the ELR itself is based.

(Bob Lutz was quoted as saying that the ELR would cost about as much as 'two Volts' (which starts from $39,995).((We really don`t understand why GM is staying so tight-lipped about one of the most interesting cars they`ve made in ages, when they should be flooding the internet with promo videos and witty ad slogans.

Furthermore, if they price it over $60,000, it will stray dangerously close to base Tesla Model S territory, and since we have come to understand that the all-electric sedan is a great all-round car, we say GM will shoot themselves in the foot with the ELR, if they get the pricing wrong.
