We’ve Never Seen So Many Drifting Porsches: 40 Years of Porsche Driving School

One serious corner in a 911 is enough to win you over thanks to the incredible balance of this Porsche. The story is the same with all of the Zuffenhausen’s sportscars, so, naturally, drifting isn’t the first thing that comes to mind when we think about Porsche. Nonetheless, sliding shenanigans have become explosively popular over the last few years, so now the Germans have embraced the sideways discipline.

The latest example of this comes from the way in which the carmaker chose to celebrate 40 years of its Porsche Sport Driving School. The precision-obsessed people treat us with a clip that includes more drifting Porsches in one place than we’ve ever seen.

Speaking of this, we’d like to remind you of a little tech gimmick used by the 911 GT3 you can see drifting in the video above. This may use active rear steering, but when the car is sliding, the rear wheels are brought to a neutral position, as not to interfere with the tail-out activities.

It was 1974 when Porsche launched its driving school, the same year when the 911 Turbo came around - teaching people how to cope with the extra oomph brought by the forced induction seems as natural as possible.

As you can see in the clip, these guys are not kidding. For instance, when Porsche rented the Nurburgring... it rented the Nurburgring - you can see a sea of their cars taking over the Nordschleife, with customers walking around as relaxed as in their back yard.

Nowadays, Porsche’s steering wheel university spreads across a large number of countries, with their driving instructors possessing a particular type of humor that always seem to keep you connected - we noticed this on each and every encounter we had with these Porsche guys.
