Wet Weather Expected for the Korean GP

Some slight drizzles are expected to pour down the newly-finalized Yeongam track over the upcoming weekend, as shown in a recent weather report in the local media. However, unlike the recent Japanese Grand Prix, it's highly unlikely that it would cause so much chaos in terms of qualifying and or race actions through the 3-day F1 event.

According to the local weather forecast – which is focused on the city of Mokpo, the closest to the Yeongam venue in Korea's Jeollanam-do province – it will be cool, cloudy and breezy this weekend, but chances of a few showers are only for the late hours of Saturday and early hours of Sunday, when no F1 car will be in action on the track.

This means the racing surface will have plenty of time to dry out. Hopefully the rain will not cause any damage in terms of track texture, as the last layer of the asphalt has less than 2 weeks since it has been settled.

A really wet day is expected for the Monday after the race, which will not affect however the plans of F1 teams.

In addition to that information, another report in the local media suggests the grandstands of the Yeongam circuit will be half full throughout the weekend, as only 60,000 tickets have been sold for the entire 3 days of the event. We're not sure if that's from the weather forecast – although the crowd in Japan showed us all that F1 fans are truly committed to watching an F1 race live, no matter the weather outside – or from the fact that the Korean organizers have done little to promote the race properly.

Frankly, we have not been prepared well for our F1 debut,” admitted Yoon Keun-Sang, the PR director for the race organizer. “If we host this year's event successfully, the situation will be far different next year.

For the inaugural Korean Grand Prix, the race is yet to have a completely-built complex, while also lacking a naming sponsor.
