Wet Nurburgring Crashes Are Painful Performance Driving Lessons

When it comes to performance driving, rain is the kind of "if it doesn't kill you, it makes you stronger" factor, meaning that tons of wet tarmac practice will help you master what seemed to be a handling ordeal at first.

Nevertheless, many drivers never make it past that border, with rain remaining a slightly intimidating factor throughout their lives. Factor in the Nurburgring's merciless nature and you'll end up with a driving experience that's fully worthy of the track's Green Hell nickname.

As most surfaces in this world, the 'Ring is slippery when wet. Yes, we know, this sounds a bit like a cliche, but perhaps some warning signs containing a shortened version of this message should be displayed at the infamous circuit - this is the conclusion we've reached after watching the video below.

The clip, which comes from the aptly named crew over at Auto Addiction Nurburgring, brings us a compilation of wet 'Ring accidents. While hardcore Nordschleife aficionados might already be familiar with some of the painful crashes shown here, we can all treat this as a free performance driving lesson.

Some of the tuition being provided here is pretty obvious - when you drive a senior 911 Turbo, the pendulum effect might overcome your otherwise obvious respect for the gas pedal.

However, a part of these accidents seem like the kind that could easily happen to many good drivers out there. For one thing, the elevation and even grip changes at the Nurburgring mean the water-on-the-tarmac you'll meet there might just be a bit different to the rain you used to know.

Oh, and don't expect racecars to be missing from this mix - in fact, superior track performance and improved driving skill sometimes only make the accident more worthy of being thoroughly analyzed, hence the screenshot you can see above.
