Webber Will Drive Vettel's Old Chassis at Silverstone

Last week, a few days after Mark Webber's spectacular airborne crash in the European GP, at Valencia, it was reported that the 33-year old Australian will get behind the wheel of a brand new RB6 at Silverstone. However, the latest media reports from Great Britain, Autosport to be more precise, are hinting that Webber's new chassis could in fact be his teammate Sebastian Vettel's old one.

Since the beginning of the European season of Formula One, Webber beat Vettel on two consecutive occasions – Barcelona and Monaco – after which the latter started complaining about the poor performances of his car. A few days later, the Austrian team revealed that there was indeed something wrong with Vettel's chassis number 3 and provided the German with a brand new car in the following event in Turkey.

Well, that particular car will now be in the hands of Webber, at the British Grand Prix. The chassis number 4 he crashed in Valencia could have been fixed, according to Autosport, but the Milton Keynes mechanics decided it was better to use it for spare parts for the remainder of the ongoing campaign.

However, Red Bull will not hand Webber a defective RB6, as the team claims it has solved all the problems underwent by chassis number 3 in its Vettel days. A clear evidence that this car can indeed take its driver to victory lane is the fact that it brought Vettel his and his team's first win of 2010, in Malaysia.

It's not yet known whether Red Bull will build a new chassis for Webber in the second part of the season or the Australian driver will stick to chassis number 3 for the long run.
