Webber Wants Red Bull Extension

Mark Webber is very confident that the new season will bring him consistent point finishes inside F1. The Australian – who has just recovered from his leg injury on a cycling event last autumn – believes that a good run in 2009 could only boost his chances of extending his deal with Red Bull Racing. He showed consistent pace in qualifying throughout 2008, but rarely turned it into point-scoring positions at the finish line.

However, with Red Bull Racing using more powerful Renault engines – after FIA granted the French manufacturer with an engine power boost to bring its units at the same level of performance as the other teams in F1 – Webber cannot conceive not improving himself in 2009.

“I am happy with Red Bull and I hope Red Bull will be happy with me. If I keep my consistency and get everything out of the car, I will have no worries for the future. I plan to stay on with Red Bull long-term. In fact, I do not see me working with any other team,” said Webber in an interview for autosport.com.

“I see no reason why Red Bull should not do well in 2009. The car looks extremely good. We have all the key people for success. I am sure we will run with the top this year,” added Webber.

Red Bull is yet to launch its 2009 challenger, with the unveiling of the new car being scheduled in early February. Webber didn't get to conclude any test with his team following his leg injury, but he insisted that won't be a problem ahead of the Melbourne race in late March. The Australian will get 2 or 3 testing sessions with Red Bull RB5 before the season opener, despite admitting he will not be 100% fit to do so.

“Everything is on schedule, the new car and me. At the moment, I can put pressure on my broken right leg at 25 percent. For Melbourne late March I will have 80 percent, but that's enough for racing,” concluded Webber.
