Webber Targets Best Career Result in Australia

Mark Webber started winning races in the Formula 1 championship back in 2009, when he took an impressive first place in the German Grand Prix, at the Nurburgring. Later, he went on to become a title contender in 2010, losing the chance to win the F1 crown in the last race of the 2010 season.

Despite his recent success with Red Bull however, the 34-year old was never able to make a good impression in front of a home crowd. And heading to Melbourne next weekend, the Australian's aim for the season opener is just that: score his personal best result at Albert Park.

I hope I can improve my luck there,” said the Red Bull driver in a race preview for the Australian event, “as it hasn’t been incredible since since my first GP in ’02. I hope to get my best result and there’s every indication we can do that. This is the best winter we’ve had – let’s hope we can carry it on into this event.”

As for the new challenges ahead, Webber admitted that the Pirelli tires will give the entire field plenty of headaches in Melbourne, especially with the unstable weather in Victoria.

We’ve done a huge amount of testing and a lot of work has gone into the cars - now we’ll put them through their paces at Albert Park and lots of questions will be answered. It’s going to be an eventful weekend, especially as the weather can be a bit hit and miss. We’ll learn a lot about the tires, which will play a key role.”

Webber's best result with Red Bull in Melbourne was a 9th place last year, which is also the first time he made the scoreboard with the Austrian team.
