Webber Slams "Nanny State" Victoria for Hamilton Incident

Although penalized by the FIA for his race incident with Lewis Hamilton, Australian racer Mark Webber did not hesitate in defending the 2008 F1 champion following his short encounter with the Victorian police last weekend.

As we've reported to you on Friday, the British ace was pulled over by the police for doing some burnouts with his Mercedes C63 AMG. He was fined and his car was confiscated by the police for 48 hours, after which Hamilton issued a public apology for the incident. And if that weren't enough, the Victoria Roads Minister Tim Pallas called the McLaren racer a “d**khead” and asked for his F1 superlicense to be suspended (talk about being way off...)

With the media giving Hamilton plenty of headaches on the matter, Webber was the first one to publicly hit back at the Victorian officials, admitting that it “p***** him off coming back here.

It's a great country, but we've got to be responsible for our actions and it's certainly a bloody nanny state when it comes to what we can do. Lewis has found out very quickly,” said Webber, according to planetf1.com.

I think we've got to read an instruction book when we get out of bed - what we can do and what we can't do... put a yellow vest on and all that sort of stuff. It p***** me off coming back here, to be honest,” added the Red Bull racer.

Once again, Pallas did not rest until responding to Webber also, insisting that he only criticized Hamilton because he put human lives at risk. Additionally, he asked his countryman to be more responsible in terms of road safety with his statements, especially with the FIA launching a brand new campaign on the matter.

I draw the line at Mark, because I think what Mark Webber has done has been totally irresponsible, but he didn't display the behaviour that Lewis Hamilton did, and that was put people's lives at risk,” said Pallas.
