Webber Glad Vettel's Winning Streak Is Over

Everybody in the Red Bull organization must be frustrated with their race win miss in the Chinese Grand Prix this weekend, especially after their reigning champion Sebastian Vettel dominated the qualifying session on Saturday so clearly in front of his rivals.

One man at Milton Keynes, however, is pleased to see that the German driver did not record his 3rd consecutive win this year. And it’s no rocket science to figure out his name, as we’re talking about Mark Webber. The Australian driver did not manage the season start of his dreams this year and losing another 10+ points to Vettel would have made it harder for him to try a comeback later in the campaign.

After starting the race from P18, Webber managed a sensational second stint on soft tires and climbed all the way to 3rd place in the end, scoring his first podium of the year.

Congratulations to Lewis. It was good that someone finally... of course Seb is in the same team, but he's been on a phenomenal run and we're all here together fighting for victories,” said Webber.

Shame McLaren won in a way, but also we can't let Seb get too far away. It was a good day for the racing, I think, and a good day for us in terms of points for the team.”

Webber dedicated his magnificent drive in China to his race engineers and mechanics, who have never given up hope in a great result this weekend.

To still see P17 on board after 15 laps [was hard], then I felt comfortable with car, and I had a few sets of tires left after qualifying - so maybe the best bet is not to take part in qualifying and go from there! Jokes aside, great job this weekend, the guys haven't given up - it is a drive for everyone at the factory.”
