Webber Gained Weight After 2010 Title Miss

Mark Webber might have acted all socially correct after he failed to secure the world title last season, but the Australian certainly did not take his defeat too well over the winter. If Fernando Alonso took 2 to 3 days to cool off, Webber drowned his sorrows by doing a “Ricky Hatton” - method referring to the famous boxer's way of gaining weight and afterwards losing it before a fight.

For five weeks I relaxed and, if I felt like eating sausages, I'd bang them on,” admitted Webber in a recent interview with the Evening Standard. “It was just good to take that time off as I'd not done it for a long time.”

F1 drivers normally live under a strict diet all year round, as physical fitness is a crucial element of their preparation season in and out. However, coming after two rough winters, during which he had to either recover from injuries caused by a cycling accident or sustain surgery, he allowed himself to enjoy the full taste of not-so-healthy meals.

I'm not normally good at doing nothing but that's just what I did and it was needed after two really hard winters where I was either on crutches or having surgery,” he added.

However, Webber admitted that once he started preparation for the upcoming campaign, his body immediately felt the consequences of the “food party” through the winter.

I remember thinking 'holy shit, I've let this go too far' but in the end I felt sensational for it and I'm the same weight as at the end of last season and it's all about the long haul,” he added.

The Australian driver also referred to his contractual situation with Red Bull, given that he us one of the few members of the Milton Keynes based organization who hasn't had his contract renewed from 2011 onwards.

I don't think there's a person in the world that doesn't want to be wanted or liked,” added the 34-year old. “I've rarely got a two-year deal since I got there and that's how Helmut Marko likes to do it. It's up to me to put in the performances to warrant a new deal.”
