Webber: 2009 Title is Only Button's to Lose

Red Bull's Mark Webber is, no doubt about it, happy with his team's decision not to support just a single driver for the championship this season, especially since he reckons his teammate Sebastian Vettel is currently holding the momentum within the Milton Keynes based outfit. The Australian driver insisted that there would be no point in Red Bull backing a single driver for the remainder of the season, as less than 4 points separate the two in the overall classification.

Of course, Vettel won two races this season and is regarded as the only driver who could actually put some pressure on Button for the world title, but Webber also scored 4 podiums this season, from which 3 are all runner-up spots. In a recent interview with BBC Sport website, Webber insisted that both him and his team are holding decent chances for the championship crown.

It is too early to start backing one driver, and the team are being brilliant with that. It's only natural that there is a bit of momentum with Sebastian within Red Bull because he took the chequered flag in China and Britain. You can't escape the fact that it would be different if I had won a race, but if I can qualify a bit higher and keep up the consistency then I'm confident there will be a win just around the corner,” said Webber.

Brawn are still catchable in the constructors' standings. There is no doubt they are on the front foot with a 30-point lead but it is do-able. The reality is these are unchartered waters for Red Bull but there is still a lot to play for and I'm not giving up on anything,” added the Aussie veteran.

Even so, Webber admitted that this year's title is only Button's to lose, as the Brit has so far proved he is mistake free with a race winning car.

The battle for the drivers' championship is much tougher for us because, the way he's [Button] been driving, I don't see Jenson losing the fight himself. He has been so impressively consistent in all sessions and all races and just doesn't make mistakes. If he loses the world title now, it will be down to a problem from the team, not him,” added the 32-year old.
