Waze Said to Be Working on Android Auto Dark Mode Fix, Bad News Incoming

Waze is currently one of the most popular navigation apps out there, and of course, it has millions of users on Android Auto, too.

And because the number of people relying on it to reach their destinations faster and easier is growing, Waze is continuously working on refining the experience with the app. This includes not only new capabilities but also additional polishing for the existing features.

At this point, however, one of the main struggles the Waze team is reportedly working on concerns the dark mode, as in some cases, the app fails to enable it and just sticks with the light UI. Even during the night and regardless of the settings you make, that is.

I hit the same problem on Android Auto lately, but in my case, the problem was more or less gone after reconnecting the phone, though it occasionally shows up again at random times. In 90 percent of the cases, however, the dark mode in Waze is activated correctly, but worth emphasizing is also that reconnecting the smartphone doesn’t always do the trick.

On the other hand, if I disconnect the Android device, stop the engine, reboot the phone, and then reconnect Android Auto, Waze does enter the night mode correctly. Of course, this isn’t necessarily something you’d be willing to do in the middle of the drive, but for some reason, it does correct the bug temporarily.

Someone on reddit, however, says the Waze team is aware of the problem and is currently working on resolving it, though it looks like the engineers are also having a hard time developing a fix. This means there’s no ETA available right now, so you’d better not hold your breath for it.

"I’ve looked into your specific problem. It turns out our development team knows about it, but it’s taking longer than expected to fix, and we don’t have an exact timeline,” the Waze team allegedly said, according to one user.

At this point, the latest Waze version for Android and Android Auto is 4.69.0.4.
