This week has definitely been the week of the Ford Shelby GT350 Mustang, with everyone talking about how this first flat-plane crankshaft in the history of Ford street cars produces an overwhelming soundtrack. Nonetheless, we mustn’t forget that there’s another, even faster piece of American metal that’s waiting to make its first owners happy. The 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06.
To give you a taste of what those lucky drivers will experience, we’re bringing you the adjacent video, which shows multiple example of the Z06 tear up Road Atlanta. The footage was recently released by GM itself, being captured at the media launch of the sportscar turned supercar.

Yes, the Z06 no longer stands for the spiced-up natural aspiration of the standard Corvette. Now the badge has gained a supercharger, pushing the output to 650 hp and even sparking rumors stating that the supercharged ZR1 won’t get a replacement.

The Z06 had two serious accidents during its development

Nonetheless, the development of the Z06 hasn’t been easy. Prototypes had two crashes, one on the Nurburgring and one on US soil, so at least we can be certain the supercar was tested to the limit and beyond.

Speaking of Corvette Z06 ownership, this fun won’t come cheap. The base price for a 2015 Z06 Coupe is $78,995, but there are certain optional extras you simply can’t leave unmarked. While three pedal fans will argue with the necessity to add the 8-speed automatic, the Z07 performance package is a must. This brings extra downforce, Michelin Pilot Super Sport Cup rubber, as well as Brembo carbon ceramics.

In fact, even though the official lap times for the Z06 haven’t been released yet, gifting the car with the Z07 go-fast bits make it quicker than the ZR1.
