Watching Clarkson Fold a DHL Box Is Officially More Fun than the New Top Gear

Watching the reactions that the new Top Gear got, we've come to realize that the show had to be absolutely brilliant if the fans were ever to cut it some slack and not go medieval on its behind. And, let's face it, no show can be that good from the word go - just look at the old Top Gear.

Personally, I hoped the show would be a success. I thought that a change would do it good, as the song went, and that we'd get to see something different, presented by different men (and woman). Sadly, though, only half of those expectations turned out to be true, and it wasn't even the right half.

We are now left with a show that tries to copy the old one, a presenter who tries to copy the old one, and a lot of people who don't know what to watch on a Sunday evening. But just have a look at the clip below and tell us who besides Clarkson, Hammond and May could make a video about folding a box this entertaining. And you feel like they're not even trying, it just comes naturally. They're being themselves, they're not pointlessly shouting to create fake excitement.

But you know what? They weren't always like that. This is a product of years of working and fooling around (that came out wrong) together. I'm not going to make another plea for the new Top Gear as I too have lost faith in it as long as Chris Evans is there, I'm just saying that if he had been a little more relaxed, something a lot better might have come out. But as things stand right now, we have to watch people assemble boxes to have a little bit of fun. And wait for autumn to come.

So, the video of Jeremy Clarkson facing his life-long nemesis - having to do something practical with his hands - has had over 1.3 million views in just three days. Double that, and it will have been watched by more people that the audience of the new show's second episode. And - I can't stress this enough - it's a clip of three grown men gathered around a poor yellow cardboard box. Losing to a box must really hurt, huh, Evans?

PS: Somebody should tell James May to stop filming in portrait mode. I'm sure he has a scientific explanation for why it's better this way, but it just isn't.
