Watch Vietnamese Police Using Fishing Nets to Capture Runaway Bikers

Extreme conditions demand extreme responses, they say, and when the local police force in Vietnam can no longer curb the illegal motorcycle street racing, is sounds like it’s time for a dash of extraordinary.

What may sound like extremely dangerous to some, is in fact one of the least violent actions police officers could have come up with. In the first place, some feared that fishing nets would be thrown over the riders themselves, exposing them to high risks of being involved in very bad crashes. However, the officers are shooting a fishing net-like charge at the rear wheel of a perpetrator’s bike. It gets entangled in the hub, spokes and sprocket, forcing the rider to slow down.

The initial prototypes have been perfected, and the added lead weights help officers improve accuracy, while at the same time, the nets are causing a slower, more linear deceleration which makes using them safer, and even the special guns have been upgraded.

It looks like the Vietnamese police has been perfecting this way to stop illegal racers for quite some time now, but you know that motorcycle news travel rather slowly from that part of the world. Now we have the chance to see the modus operandi. According to local sources, around 200 motorcycles and scooters have been stopped using this method in the first 3 months after the implementation of the “fishnet-hunting”.

Now, even though some might say that the cops are lucky because the Vietnamese riders are only using small bikes. However, I dare these fellows to use some fishing lines on the rear wheels of their R1 and see what comes of it…
