On Tuesday, typhoon Jebi hit Japan hard, with wind gusts of up to 102 miles per hour and heavy rain. Buildings were ripped apart and partially collapsed, and cars were made to wobble and tip over.
Not even heavy, loaded trailer trucks stood a chance, as the video at the bottom of the page shows. Global News says this is a scene from a bridge in Yodogawa-ku, where winds were so powerful they literally carried a large trailer truck and a van away.

From the start of the video, it’s clear that the driver of the truck believes he can make it across the bridge at slow speed. Meanwhile, the driver of the white van pulls over, perhaps hoping the wind will die down a bit, allowing him enough time to get to the other side.

Neither makes it to where they were going. Both vehicles are made to flip on the side and are then blown away towards the other side of the bridge. The entire lateral section of the trailer is ripped off and sent flying into the water.

Jebi is the biggest storm to hit the country in 25 years, the 7th to hit the country in 2018, but also the strongest tropical storm to have hit any territory in the world this year. With winds reaching speeds of 102 miles per hour, Jebi is the equivalent of a Category 1 hurricane.

Buildings have been ripped apart or brought down, large territories flooded and damage done to vehicles is huge. Hundreds of flights have been canceled, with Osaka’s Kansai airport being hit the hardest.

The airport was covered almost entirely by water in a storm surge, forcing authorities to shut it down completely. In the process, thousands of people were locked inside, stranded.

A tanker ship that was out to sea washed away into Osaka Bay, crashing into a bridge that led to the airport. The crew wasn’t harmed.
