Want to have a fun track day for low bucks? Why not get a classic Toyota AE 86, strip it off of unnecessary interior parts and go for a drift session.
The AE 86 is solid proof that you can have fun in a cheap car powered by a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine. The secret is to have a manual transmission, rear wheel drive and a lightweight body, things that the ol’ Corolla Levin has as standard.
The first generation has a 1.6-liter fuel-injected twin-cam engine, offering 130 PS and 110 lb-ft of torque sent through a 5-speed manual gearbox to the rear wheels. Also, the AE 86 weighs under 1,000 kg (2,200 lb), which makes it very tail-happy.
