Toyota brought a lot of vehicles at the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show, but three of them can be considered the most important and most interesting.
Starting with the most important one, the FCV was the center of attention at the show, promising to be the first mass produced fuel cell vehicle and start a new era, just like the Prius did back in 1997. Unlike a normal plug-in electric vehicle, the FCV produces its own electricity from hydrogen stored in two high-pressure tanks bellow the cabin, which gives it an extended range and a shorter refuel time.
The second vehicle is the FV2 concept, which is Toyota’s newest embodiment of the term “fun to drive”, which tries to create a better connection between the driver and the vehicle itself. It has no physical controllers, with the driver having to shift his weight in order to accelerate, brake and steer. The FV2 is also capable of learning his driver’s habits and suggest possibilities, routes and locations.
Last but not least is the Toyota JPN Taxi, which will probably be Japan’s Black Cab in the near future. Created with Japanese hospitality in mind, the cab features large electrically operated door for easy access, comfortable spacious interior and a large display to show passengers useful info like route and taxi fares.
