We all know the ICEs will soon wave their last goodbyes. Still, it’s pretty impressive to see a few high-powered 90s legends working their way up the horsepower board as Tesla fanboys patiently wait for Elon to pull a rabbit out of his magic hat. That Racing Channel recently showcased a screaming 4 Rotor RX-7 whipping out some crazy numbers on the Dyno.
If you love early RX-7s, you probably got your inspiration from Keisuke Takahashi’s FD3S of the Red Suns watching Initial D (1995-2013).

Well, That Racing Channel’s featured 4 Rotor Mazda RX-7 might look nothing like the famous 90s anime flick racer, but its brutal sounds make you wish it was part of the script.

TRC admits that Roy’s 1997 4 Rotor RX-7 is one of the cleanest street cars they’ve seen. He puts his foot on the throttle, and its chaotic heart plant produces an orchestra of tunes through the exhaust tip only a petrol head will enjoy.

This 1997 4 Rotor RX-7 has a Garrett GTX 91 mm Turbo. It runs an S1 Sequential-shifted face-plated t56 transmission and a full exhaust system by Eccentric Motorsports.

Roy started the build in 2020, just as the pandemic began. Things slowed down a bit for obvious reasons. The build slowly progressed; by July 2021, he was 80 percent done. He had it delivered in January, but the cold weather slowed things down again (he lives in New York). Finally, he took the car for a Dyno session last week, and it was running between 15 to 18 pounds of boost (1.03 - 1.24 bar).

This is my one, two, three, four, five. This is the sixth one. The first car, I was 18 years old. It’s still a race car. It was a 1987 RX-7 Turbo II. That turned into a drag race car. Still have it.” Roy revealed.

They hook it up on the Dyno, and on the first run, it registers a blistering 1,272 hp (1,290 PS). It hits 1,228 hp (1,245 PS) on the second run at 9,000 RPMs.

Roy recently acquired another RX-7. It’s a 1991 Turbo II, and he’s looking to build it for the street class next year.

We recommend you watch the video below as he breaks down his journey in building this high-performance screamer!
