At this year’s Geneva Motor Show in March, Italian design house Pininfarina showed the first car it created to wear solely the Pininfarina badge. Called Battista, the hypercar caused quite a stir back then, and it is poised to do the same later this month, at the Pebble Beach Councours d'Elegance.
Despite the fact the car was just announced, the Battista variant to be shown in California is apparently different than what Europeans got to see in March. The new version is an “evolved” one, as the company’s CEO Michael Perschke says.

What exactly that means is not entirely clear. The company limited itself as saying this new version of the Battista comes with “enhanced design” and that’s it.

That statement essentially means no modifications have been made to the car’s powertrain. And none were needed, really.

The Battista is powered by an electric powertrain developed by Croatian car manufacturer Rimac in collaboration with Indian company Mahindra Racing. It comprises a huge 120 kWh battery pack – the one used on the Rimac C_Two and four electric motors, one for each of the wheels.

With all their combined power, the motors develop mind-boggling figures and stunning performance levels: 1,900 horsepower and 2,300 Nm of torque, and an acceleration time of under 2 seconds.

The car will officially enter the market in 2020 in very limited numbers. One hundred fifty units will ever be made, split equally between customers in North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. Three specification levels will be available, but pricing is yet unknown.

At the Pebble Beach event this month, the Battista will be accompanied on the ground by the a new desgin model, the Pura Vision, and several sketches and renders. As per the Italian company, the California event should be the “biggest celebration yet of Pininfarina’s past, present and future.”
