The future BMW M3 will be coming back to a straight 6-cylinder engine, probably called S55 and based on the N55 engine that is most impressive and used on the F20 M135i models.
That's why we decided to show you this clip. It showcases a run down the Nurburgring, with the current day M3 Coupe (the E92) and the F20 M135i. The M3 has its V8 4-liter and 414 HP with 400 Nm (300 lb-ft) at its disposal and still doesn't manage to get away from the 1er.

The M135i is fitted with the magnificent N55 engine and has 320 HP and 450 Nm (330 lb-ft) sent to the rear wheels. More torque but less horsepower. Furthermore, the 1er is a bit lighter than the M3 with 1,425 kg (3,142 lb) over 1,680 kg (3,704 lb).

However, we're not showing these videos just to judge the cars based on theoretic values written on paper. The F80 M3 will have a proper S55 M Division engine. If this N55 unit can do such damage, imagine what a 420 HP one would do. Imagine the fact that the future M3 will have even more torque (recent rumors say around 550 Nm or 400 lb-ft).

So, the future M3 looks promising. Unfortunately, we'll have to wait another couple of months until BMW will finally release it and that is just nerve wrecking.
